Ministry official: An-2 replacement to cost Russia 4 bln rbl

MOSCOW, Oct 18 (PRIME) -- Creation of a replacement aircraft for the An-2 planes and the launch of its mass production will cost the government 4 billion rubles, Dmitry Lysogorsky, director of the Industry and Trade Ministry’s aviation industry department, said on Friday at a meeting of the State Duma, the parliament’s lower house.

“We plan to start production at the Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant, which is located in the regions with the highest demand for transportation by local airlines. The cost of the contract is 1.250 billion rubles, while the combined cost of the project including…mass production…is slightly more than 4 billion rubles,” he said.

The ministry and Baikal-Engineering signed a contract on development of a new light multi-purpose plane to replace the An-2 plane on Thursday.
